The McLarens Group has always strived to achieve perfect harmony between the triple bottom line – profits, planet and people. Supporting the local community has always been a part of our corporate culture. As such, Corporate Social Responsibility is ingrained in the DNA of the Group with an emphasis on creating a conducive environment for the enrichment of its employees and the community as a whole.

The Group CSR initiatives are focused on supporting key areas of community development by organizing long term sustainable CSR Projects within the focused areas of: Education, Children, Poverty/ Community upliftment, Environment and Health. The Sustainability and CSR committee headed by the Joint Managing Director Mrs. Shehara Jayawardana sets out the Group’s sustainability and CSR policy which highlights the need and importance of engaging with the community with the objective of empowering and enriching people’s lives.

Following are few CSR Projects carried out by the McLarens Group

A key initiative of the McLarens Group is its continued support offered to the Colombo Welikada Prisons through the ‘Friends of Prisoners Children’ charitable foundation. Over the last 10 years, the group has provided scholarships to the children of inmates, upgraded the women’s ward and constructed a library within the premises.

McLarens conducted a pilot project on Career Guidance at the University of Colombo to final year Arts Faculty students as part of a much broader program based on helping the youth of the nation overcome the obstacles faced in entering the corporate world.

McLarens Group works with the University of Moratuwa- Faculty of Engineering, Department of Transport & Logistic to support the upcoming graduates by organizing career guidance Programs and offering internships.

As an industry leader in the field of shipping in Sri Lanka, McLarens conducted an awareness session on “ Prevention of Marine Environment Pollution” while also donating first aid boxes to the fishermen in Galle.

The Group has been involved in building two religious retreat centers, one in Seeduwa (near the Colombo airport) “Supuwath Arana” where thousands of worshipers visit each day. The second one was in the remote Knuckles mountain range, in Hunnasgiriya where monthly retreat programs are conducted.

In an effort to provide education in the shipping industry McLarens offers scholarships to deserving candidates through the institute of chartered ship brokers.

The McLarens Group is also involved in the continuous support and development of sports in Sri Lanka with an emphasis on motor racing, Badminton and cycling.

Due to  our ardent passion for motor racing, McLarens has taken on the task of sponsoring talented young drivers, organizing training programs and running a motor racing development program in order to promote new talent in the sport through investing in entry level go kart racing and single-seater formula racing and stock car racing series.

McLarens today sponsors and supports over 20 national players in the field of Badminton including the reigning national champions; both men and women.. Niluka Karunarathne is one key success story of our endeavors as we accomplished success to produce the only participant in the recent history to represent Sri Lanka for 2 consecutive Olympics as proof of our commitment to the game and Sports in general.  Our support was also extended to the National Netball Team, cyclists, and rugby players as part of our sponsorships extended to the development of Sports in Sri Lanka.
