Shehara Jayawardana

Group Joint Managing Director

Shehara Jayawardana is the Group Joint Managing Director of McLarens Group and also serves on the Boards of Subsidiaries and Joint Ventures of the McLarens Group. She also heads the Group’s Shared Services Division, overseeing the Group Finance, HR, Internal Audit & Compliance, IT and Company Secretarial Divisions. She directs the Corporate Strategy and Planning and new business acquisitions for the McLarens group.

Shehara joined McLarens Holdings Ltd as the Business Development Manager in 2002. She was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2005 and set up the Shared Services Division and spearheaded the restructuring of the McLarens

group, and spearheaded mergers and acquisitions and new business which has led to accelerated growth of the group and further consolidate and establish itself as a leading diversified conglomerate in Sri Lanka. She has managed to professionalize the family run business by implementing best practices, ERP systems, financial disciplines and investing in training and development across the group subsidiaries and joint ventures.

She holds a MSc. in Shipping, Trade and Finance with Honors from City University, CASS Business School, London, UK and BSc. in Economics with Honors from London School of Economics, UK. Shehara had previously worked at Wan Hai Lines Singapore, GAC Headquarters - Dubai and HSBC-Colombo and the Institute of Policy Studies.

Shehara is the founding President of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association in Sri Lanka (WISTA). She has been dedicated to empowering women in the maritime and related fields through harnessing the power of networking sharing experiences and training and mentoring. She was named as one of the most powerful business women in Sri Lanka by the Echelon magazine.

Shehara also won the Silver Award – under the Supply Chain category at the Professional & Career Women Awards 2016 by Women in Management  (WIM). This award was presented to Shehara in recognition of the outstanding contribution to the industry and for being an inspiring and vibrant personality.

She was appointed as the Advisor to the Hon Minister of Women’s & Child Affairs in March 2016. She serves on the National agenda committee of the chamber of Commerce for shipping and logistics. Shehara serves as a Volunteer Committee Member of Friends of Prisoners’ Children since 2005   active in community service work. She is the First Female Formula Racing Driver in Sri Lanka and actively participates in Motor Racing Events in Sri Lanka and has won many accolades in several events in circuit racing, gravel track and hill climbs.
