Shehara Jayawardana

Group Joint Managing Director

Shehara Jayawardana serves as the Joint Managing Director of McLarens Group. McLarens Group is a diversified conglomerate with over 60 companies and has its core business in shipping, marine and logistics sectors. The group has total staff strength of over 1200 employees and has a 70 year old heritage and today is one of the largest shipping agency services group’s in Sri Lanka. Mclarens other diversified sectors include hotels, manufacturing, import and distribution of products for multinational companies.

Shehara joined the group in 2003 and has over the years contributed to the group in unprecedented growth in business and expansion of services under the McLarens brand.

She heads the Senior Management team of the group and spearheads strategic planning, investment decisions, mergers and new business acquisitions, restructuring and key decisions in the day to day business of the shipping, logistics, automotive, leisure sectors of the group. Shehara also heads the shared services of McLarens Holdings and keeps pushing the bar to achieve excellence in HR, IT, Finance and Compliance areas. She also encourages innovation by developing many disruptive business ideas within the current business sectors. She also heads the various CSR initiatives of McLarens group.

Shehara is the Founding President of WISTA Sri Lanka, a global network for empowering women in the maritime sector. WISTA Sri Lanka has grown steady over the least years to become a well established stakeholder in the shipping industry in Sri Lanka.

She was appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Ceylon Association of Shipping Agents (CASA) in 2019. She is the first female to be appointed as an Office Bearer in its 50 year History in 2017. CASA is the leading voice of the Shipping Industry in Sri Lanka. She serves as a member of the National Agenda Committee on Transport and Logistics of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and also heads the Development of Maritime Related Services working committee of National Maritime Policy Steering Committee.

Shehara is also a regular participant and winner of many motor racing events in Sri Lanka and was the only female to take part in the formula and SLGT events which are the fastest categories in Sri Lankan motor sports. She is the proud mother of two sons Yaanik and Jayden. She holds a MSc. in Shipping, Trade and Finance with Honors from City University, CASS Business School, London, UK and BSc. in Economics with Honors from London School of Economics, UK.
